Through utilizing different wavelengths, a single fiber can accommodate two-way transmissions. The bi-directional fiber transceivers can immediately expand transmission capacity without running new fiber, saving a significant portion of installation costs and maximizing the value of existing fiber plants.The independent transceiver design provides the highest flexibility for network maintenance tasks. Unlike switches, transceivers can be added only when really needed; infrastructure upgrade and transceiver repair can also be performed easily by just replacing the transceiver instead of the whole device.
